I thrive on pushing boundaries of media and form to express a concept

The massive trunks of old growth forests or the imposing rock faces of canyon walls create the physical structure of our natural world. My art is inspired by the dynamic relationship that occurs between these solid masses and the voids that exist between. Within the voids of the in-between are active pathways, spaces for light, movement and transition. These relationships are dynamic as the force of time continually erodes and builds, repeating and expanding. I take this inspiration into my studio where I thrive on pushing boundaries as I consistently explore new techniques with a variety of media. Whether it is watercolor, acrylic, printmaking or collage, I ultimately use the media or tool that best expresses my conceptual intention.

My process is a playful and exploratory journey, working to both carve away and build up layers with my brush, pastel or brayer. It is kinetic with initial marks and shapes, revealing the next. Yet at some point, my background as an architect takes over to apply the structure and form to the work. The result may be a finished piece yet the creating never concludes. It is a continuing journey leading to new directions and new pathways.
